Our Eye Doctors

Eye care professionals specialize in understanding how the human eye really works, as well as diseases and conditions that affect your vision – many of which do not have obvious symptoms. Eye doctors know how age and risk factors affect vision over time for young and old, and they understand the benefits and features of corrective lenses including eyeglasses and contacts.

Our doctors take the time to explain the results of your eye exam, describe your options and listen to your eye care needs. Because maintaining good eye health is an ongoing partnership, we encourage you to ask questions and share your health information, which could be vital to monitoring, diagnosing and treating potential vision problems.

Meet our doctors:

Dr. Jill Davids

Dr. Jill Davids graduated with honors from Trinity Christian College in 2000. During her time at Trinity she also worked at Argonne National Laboratories teaching biology, chemistry and physics to Chicago high school and college students.  Upon graduating, she received Trinity's Biology Departmental Award, an award given to one graduate each year.
Dr. Davids' graduate work was completed at the Illinois College of Optometry in 2004 where she received Cum Laude recognition. While she enjoys working with patients of all ages, Dr. Davids also focuses on helping children with amblyopia and fitting specialty contact lenses for patients with corneal abnormalities. Patients often comment on her thorough exams and her ability to explain concepts well. Dr. Davids holds both an Illinois and Indiana license. She is an avid runner and enjoys time spent golfing, cycling and reading. She, along with her husband and daughters, are currently studying secondary languages to aid in missions and travel.

Dr. Melissa Bourland

Dr. Bourland graduated from Purdue University with a bachelor's degree in Biology.  She received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, IL.  Dr. Bourland is a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa and Tomb and Key Honor Societies.  She also received Cum Laude recognition upon graduation.  Dr. Bourland enjoys practicing full-scope optometry and looks forward to seeing patients of all ages.  She is passionate about eye care and helping others.  She enjoys humanitarian work and has actively participated in volunteer work including a recent mission trip to Mexico.  Dr. Bourland was born and raised in northwest Indiana.  She, her husband and their American Eskimo welcomed their first daughter, Autumn, to their family last November.

Important updates

During the month of April, we will be limiting our office hours. Our Cedar Lake location will be open from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturday. An employee will be available to answer phone calls and dispense products during these times.

Our Dyer office will remain closed for the month of April due to an unresolved utility problem. Please call the Cedar Lake office at 219-374-7800 to speak with someone.

I will be limiting my clinic hours during these times as well. I will have a few available options on these days for emergency and time sensitive needs. Only patients will be allowed in the treatment areas. All employees and patients will be required to wear a mask. Please bring your mask if you have one. A mask will be provided if needed.

Thank you for your understanding.

Warmth and good health,

Dr. Jill Davids
